Graphic Designers Week 2
Paul Rand was a famous American graphic designer best known for his corporate logos, such as IBM, ABC, Cummins Engine, Westinghouse, and UPS, and countless others. A lot of these logos are still being used today. I found it interesting that he taught at Yale University, and he was self-taught. I loved the fact that a lot of the companies that he worked for in his beginning years are now well know beauty and fashion magazines.

Attendance
I take attendance each week first thing Monday morning for the prior week's work posted to the blog. The College gets very serious about this. Each week, there are 2 attendance records, so if you don't post during 2 out of 8 weeks, the ADP office removes you from the class and even your degree program. Please don't let that happen. Please email me with any problems or concerns. You can come see me 4 days a week at Albertus for personal help if you can get there by 5:30 pm....Monday - Thursday. My office is 203 Aquinas Hall.

Welcome to Graphic Design I!
Class begins Wednesday, January 17th and runs 8 weeks until March 8th. The main thing to do this week is to get all of the systems up and running.
-Read through the class syllabus linked from the list of links in the upper right of the blog.
-Post a bio and hello to this blog. Include a statement of what you hope to learn in this class.
-Secure a copy of Photoshop Any version after Photoshop 5 will do, and that goes back a long way. If you have ordered it from an online vendor and are waiting for it, you can download a free copy good for 30 days from https://creative.adobe.com/products/download/photoshop Adobe has gone to a rental model for students at the rate of $9.99 per month You could buy a copy of an older version on eBay and it will work just fine. Newer Macs though need to run a Windows emulator though to get an older version of Photoshop to work.
That's me on the left with Dr. Mazen and Dr. Cole at graduation May, 2016
By the end of Week 1, I want you to:
-Post a 1 paragraph review of a graphic design artist found either at the Museum of Graphic Design or through one of the links on the syllabus. Include an image from their work. This will count as 1 attendance record and your Bio will count as the other for the first week. After that, your creative work that you'll post will count toward attendance. There are two attendance records generated each week.
-Watch some of the videos on how to use Photoshop, posted in the syllabus.
-Let me know if you have any concerns or if you don't know how to do something. There is a video on how to post to this blog in the list of class links in the upper right hand corner where other important links are located.
-Getting off the ground this week is very important! The class goes by quickly. Any delay in learning to blog, installing your software, etc will set you back quite a bit. There are thousands of tutorials on YouTube on Photoshop as well as the videos I have made for you, linked from the syllabus.
Looking forward to getting this class launched!
